It’s show time! On the 9^th, 10^th and 11th of June, Wickstead Park once again threw open their doors and welcomed tanks and military vehicles from far and wide to the grounds. The museum at Armourgeddon is jam packed with tanks, vehicles, even a Bell 47 Helicopter. When we visit shows like this, moving tanks takes a huge amount organisation, planning and manpower, but once we are there, especially Wickstead At War, we have such a great time.

Wickstead at War brings history to life with hundreds of military vehicles on display, a full arena of entertainment, fly-bys, battles, stalls and much much more.

T-72 was rolled onto a low-loader and shipped off to Wickstead. Set up and ready, the schools day on Friday afternoon saw two hundred children visit to learn about and experience the ambience of a replica World War II scenario.

The arena events began at 10am on Saturday and included an Armour Display, a British Army REME Recovery display, Man vs Tank challenges, a British vehicle display, the Light Tank Stunt Team, an American vehicle display, Rolling Thunder firepower display and our favourite event; The World War II battle as Allied Forces take on a German fortification with tanks.

Some of the other vehicles that were on show included the British CVR(T) Scimitar and Scorpion light tanks, trucks dating from World War II to currently in service, communications vehicles, engineering and recover vehicles, scout vehicles, armoured cars and a large collection of military Land Rovers.

No show would be complete without Reenactors who man the battles in the main arena. Wickstead at War had several large groups who created authentic camps with personal military equipment and a field hospital.

The procession of tanks through the arena delighted the spectators at the end of the afternoon.

The show is organised by the Military Vehicle Trust. The MVT is a charity made up of thousands of military vehicle owners.

Members look after and restore the whole range of ex-military vehicles with both UK and overseas origins. Vehicles include the well-known Jeep through to tanks, transporters, lorries, Land Rovers, motorbikes, the humble folding bicycle and range from pre-First World War to the present day.

MVT members pay particular attention to the authenticity of vehicles, equipment and displays. Their events are of educational value for members of the public and try to ensure that the younger generations are aware of our heritage and the debt we owe to all branches of the armed forces. Our museum on site at Armourgeddon is open year around, from 9am to 5pm. Cost is £5 for entry, under 5s go free.
