Tank Paintball 2014 is officially open.

Last weekend saw red ribbons tied from tank to tank, the final clean up of the winter renovations period completed, our beloved Sherman polished and buffed and Tank Paintball Season officially OPEN! Stuart had great fun training a new member of our Instructor Team on what to do if the Bedford MJ Lorry gets stuck in the bottom field… nothing like a bit of hands-on training with the best Armourgeddon has to offer! They did manage to get out, eventually!

Armourgeddon Tank Paintball 2014 Season is officially OPEN!

Last weekend saw red ribbons tied from tank to tank, the final clean up of the winter renovations period completed, our beloved Sherman polished and buffed and Tank Paintball Season is officially OPEN!

The weekend saw two great fun Stag Groups putting the Stags through their paces, learning the ropes of Tank Paintball. Each member of the 3 man crews learnt to drive FV432 tanks under trained instructors, to load the paintball cannons- turreted atop their FV432, use the crosshairs on the eye piece to hone in on their enemy tanks and release a barrage of giant paintballs. After the training was completed, the tanks headed toward the battlefield and prepared to engage.

Full throttle through the undulating tracks of the countryside, some rides bumpier than others (naming no names, but you know who you are…), it was smiles a-plenty as the convoy headed to the bottom field. Battle-faces were set, though, as the hatches were closed and battle position prepared. As instructors conducted their final ‘William Wallace’ rallying speeches, back slapping and team hugs glued each team into a finely tuned tank-paintball-battle-machine and with a final 3-2-1…. Battle commenced and the season was open.

Once the battle-hardened teams returned to base at a fair pace with even more confidence in their tank driving, it was smiles all round and for years to come, the comrades will be saying ‘Do you remember the day we went to Tank Paintball and ….’ and those smiles will be back- yes we do!

The first day of the season also saw lots of Military Vehicle Driving, Tank Experience Days and Lads and Dads groups heading out across the top field in their chosen modes of transport. The Hagglund and our Russian BRDM2 both saw a fair few laps of the track and there was some expert FV432 driving from the Dads with their kids as the ultimate back seat drivers! Certainly the first laps of the fields were really expertly maneuvered with the hatches of the tanks open. Once the hatches were closed and the tanks driven through the periscope-view only as in true battle position, directional control was a little less polished!!!

The final event of the weekend was a birthday party enjoyed by 12 kids. The birthday boy is now the hero of the class this week as shrieks of joy and whoops of fun sounded out across the countryside of Southfields Farm and up to the village of Husbands Bosworth. Dressed in battle fatigues and helmets, the kids mounted the steps and sat in the Bedford MJ Lorry, paintball guns pointing outwards, and headed off for a tour around the battlefields and into the forest. Once in the woodland, the kids had the chance to fire their paintball guns (fixed in position on the sides of the lorry), at static targets along the track. In some way, this could be training future winter Olympians for Winter Biathlon… the shooting whilst trying to hold a gun still- just the skiing bit we are a bit short of facilities for… But you never know!!

So the first weekend of the season really was a complete mixed bag of events. The red tape is cut, the tanks are polished and we are ready for you!
